Can you get a health tracker without a required subscription?
Yes, but buying a device does not always mean you keep access to its insights without paying again. Some wearables include hardware in a membership; others combine an upfront purchase with an ongoing fee. Check what you own, what the app includes and what happens if you cancel.

Compare the full cost over the years you expect to use a wearable, then check exactly what remains available after cancellation. Hardware ownership, data export and continued access to interpretation are separate questions.

| Question | Subscription model | No-required-subscription model |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Check whether hardware is bundled | Check the device purchase terms |
| Ongoing cost | Check monthly or annual terms | No required consumer fee for included features |
| After cancellation | Features may be limited by the provider's terms | Check which included features stay available |
| Upgrade model | Check if upgrades are included | Check if a new device requires a separate purchase |
| Best for | People who value ongoing services | People who prefer access without a required fee |
What the fee usually pays for
A membership may include the device, app analytics, coaching, new features, support and replacement terms. Those can be real benefits. The relevant question is not whether subscriptions are inherently bad; it is whether the ongoing exchange is clear and worth it to you.
Official plan pages are the source of truth because prices and included features change.
What to check before buying
Read what the device can do without an active membership, whether you can export historical and raw data, how account deletion works, whether hardware upgrades are included, and whether cancellation changes access to past insights.
Calculate the total over two, three and five years rather than comparing only the checkout price.
Vybe's ownership position
Vybe is designed without a required consumer subscription: hardware purchase includes the interpretation layer. Revenue is intended to come from hardware, enterprise deployments, API use and licensing rather than recurring consumer access fees.
Vybe is pre-launch. This page states the intended commercial model and does not claim that every ownership model is better for every person.
